!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

When they build an high rise building, theres always a crane athe the top. How do they get the crane back on the ground when the building is finished.

My best guess is that they disassemble the crane and send it down through the unfinished elevator shafts.

Given where I live, I should know the answer to this. And I can't walk under those things - gives me the willies.

Usually, the cranes are used to take themselves apart and the pieces are lowered to the ground externally via a cable system.

so they are being lowered from the outside of the building ?

Depending on the size, you could definitely use a chopper. Many large buildings have a permanent, albeit, smaller crane on the roof, which could possibly also lower the crane pieces.

At least the bigger components, yes. They rig up a kind of gantry system that hangs over the side of the roof and winches them down to the street.

thanks for the info !

I was walking downtown with my buddy from work and theres like 6 50 stories + buildings under construction in the same area and we were wondering how they would get those cranes down.

Nah, some actually have dedicated heavy lifting cranes. But back to the chopper thing, they use heavy lift choppers to put all kinds of things on top of buildings. Most notably, large AC units.

I think they are either disassembled and lowered by the thing they use to operate the window washer platform or they bring it a mobile crane. yoy should see them assemble one. They use a hydraulic section to raise the crane body the crane inserts a new tier section and they attach it and it is a level taller

Argent is correct. They assemble/disassemble themselves.
